What this tool calculates

The tool counts ordered first-and-second combinations. It assumes exactly one line wins and that the entered dividend is the return factor per unit stake.

Straight lines = 1. Reverse lines = 2. Combination forecast lines = n × (n − 1). Outlay = lines × unit stake. Return = winning unit stake × dividend.

Results use the assumptions shown on this page. Actual settlement may differ under operator, jurisdiction, or market-specific rules.

Worked example

A three-runner combination forecast creates 3 × 2 = 6 ordered lines. At $5 per line, the outlay is $30. If the winning line pays 12.50 per unit, the return is $62.50 and net profit is $32.50.

FAQ

What is the difference between straight and reverse forecasts?

A straight forecast covers one exact first-second order; a reverse forecast covers both orders for two runners.

How many bets are in a combination forecast?

For n runners, there are n multiplied by n minus one ordered lines.

Why is the dividend applied to only one unit stake?

Only one exact first-second ordering can win, so the declared dividend applies to that winning line.

Are forecast dividends the same as fixed decimal odds?

Not always. Pool or tote forecasts may declare a dividend after the race, while some operators offer fixed prices.

Do dead heats or deductions change the return?

They can. Enter the final applicable dividend and check the operator’s dead-heat and deduction rules.
