Formula and calculation

Calculate the number and cost of boxed quinella combinations, then estimate a winning return from a quoted dividend per unit.

Boxed quinella combinations = n × (n − 1) ÷ 2. Return = winning combinations × stake per combination × dividend per unit.

Calculations are informational. Actual grading, limits, deductions and payouts follow the operator’s rules.

Worked example

Boxing four horses creates six unordered pairs. At 2 per pair the total stake is 12; one winning pair at an 18.50 dividend returns 37.

FAQ

Does order matter in a quinella?

No. The selected pair must finish first and second in either order.

How many combinations are in a box?

A box of n horses has n(n−1)/2 distinct pairs.

Is the dividend guaranteed when I place the bet?

No. Tote dividends can change until the pool is finalized.

How are dead heats handled?

Settlement and dividend division depend on tote rules; enter the resulting dividend that applies.

Can more than one combination win?

Normally one pair wins, but the input allows multiple winning combinations for unusual dead-heat settlement.
