How to use this betting tool

  1. Enter decimal odds for both teams to score first and for no goal.
  2. Select the outcome you want highlighted.
  3. Calculate the complete market overround.
  4. Review proportional no-vig probability and fair odds.

What this tool calculates

Raw implied probabilities are the reciprocals of decimal odds. Proportional normalization divides each by their total so all three fair probabilities sum to 100%.

Raw probabilityᵢ = 1 ÷ oddsᵢ. Fair probabilityᵢ = rawᵢ ÷ Σraw. Fair oddsᵢ = 1 ÷ fair probabilityᵢ.

Proportional normalization is one margin-removal method. It assumes the margin is distributed in proportion to raw implied probabilities.

Worked example

With all three selections entered, their raw implied probabilities are summed before normalization. Omitting no goal would overstate a two-team comparison.

Team A first1 ÷ entered odds
Team B first1 ÷ entered odds
No goal1 ÷ entered odds
OverroundRaw total − 100%

Tips and limitations

  • Use prices from the same market and timestamp.
  • Own goals and abandoned-match rules can differ by bookmaker.
  • No-vig probability is a price normalization, not a match forecast.

FAQ

Why must no goal be included?

It is a mutually exclusive outcome in a complete first-team-to-score market, so excluding it leaves the probability total incomplete.

How is the first-team-to-score overround calculated?

Add the reciprocal of each decimal price and subtract 100%.

What no-vig method is used?

The calculator uses proportional normalization across Team A, Team B and no goal.

Are own goals included?

Settlement rules vary by bookmaker; check the market rules for own goals and official scoring decisions.

Does fair probability predict the first scorer?

No. It only removes the displayed market margin using one mathematical method.
