How to use this calculator
Enter how much time is left today, the total work required, current progress, and desired buffer time. The calculator estimates risk and whether overtime may be needed.
Estimate whether a deadline can be finished today by comparing remaining time, required work, progress, and buffer. See deadline risk, completion probability, and overtime pressure.
Enter how much time is left today, the total work required, current progress, and desired buffer time. The calculator estimates risk and whether overtime may be needed.
The result shows whether your deadline is safe, tight, or at risk. A safe deadline leaves buffer after the remaining work is completed.
When the deadline load is above 100%, the work cannot fit into the remaining day without reducing scope, getting help, or working overtime.
With 6 hours left, 5 hours of required work, 20% progress, and 30 minutes of buffer, remaining work is 4 hours and the deadline is manageable.
You are likely to finish if remaining work fits inside available time after buffer. If it does not, reduce scope or add time.
For small tasks, 15 to 30 minutes may be enough. For complex work, leave 10% to 25% of the remaining time as buffer.
A safe deadline workload usually uses less than 80% of available time after buffer, leaving room for review and small delays.
Estimate remaining work, start risky pieces first, keep a buffer, remove low-value tasks, and communicate early if scope is unrealistic.
Overtime may be necessary when deadline load exceeds available time, but reducing scope or delegating work is often better than relying on overtime.
