Battle Pass Retention Forecast Calculator

Project how many players from a starting cohort remain active over time using a constant period-over-period retention rate. The calculator shows the retained cohort, expected churn, cumulative active-player periods, and the period when the cohort falls below a chosen threshold. It is a compact planning model for live operations, reward cadence, content pacing, and capacity—not a substitute for a measured cohort retention curve. For this battle pass forecast, use the cadence that matches the feature and avoid mixing daily retention with monthly periods.

How to use this calculator

  1. Enter values from the same game, cohort, event, or forecast period.
  2. Check that percentages and monetary values use consistent definitions.
  3. Select Calculate to update every result.
  4. Review the interpretation and test at least one alternative scenario.

Formula

Players after n periods = starting cohort × retention raten. Churned players = starting cohort − retained players. Cumulative active-player periods sum the projected active count from period 1 through n.

What the result means

The main result summarizes the scenario implied by the inputs, while the supporting results expose scale, concentration, efficiency, or risk. These are planning estimates. They depend on the definitions and assumptions entered and should be compared with observed data before a product, economy, event, or infrastructure decision is finalized.

Example calculation

Starting with 10,000 players and retaining 80% each period leaves 2,621 players after 6 periods. About 7,379 have churned, while the six projected periods contain 29,515 cumulative active-player periods. The cohort first falls below 2,500 in period 7.

Practical tips

Frequently asked questions

Does the retention rate compound each forecast period?

Yes. Each period retains the selected percentage of the players projected to remain in the prior period.

What unit should I use for a retention period?

Any consistent unit works—day, week, season, or month—as long as the rate and forecast horizon use the same unit.

Why can a constant-rate forecast differ from cohort data?

Actual retention often changes with player age, updates, campaigns, season endings, and selection effects.

What are cumulative active-player periods?

They are the sum of projected active players across forecast periods, useful for rough engagement or load planning.

How is the threshold crossing period calculated?

It is the first compounding period in which the modeled active cohort is strictly below the entered player threshold.
