Preparing images for layout and print
Images used in printable layouts have different constraints from images viewed only on screen. Page size, bleed, margins, physical dimensions, pixel density, and the relationship between an image and surrounding text can all affect the finished result.
Before printing a full run, verify the intended dimensions and produce a small proof whenever possible. A file that looks sharp on a monitor can still appear soft on paper if it has been stretched beyond the resolution available in the source.
Practical tips
- Work from the required physical size rather than guessing from screen dimensions.
- Leave safe margins around text, logos, and other elements that must not be trimmed.
- Check pixel dimensions before enlarging an image for posters or large-format output.
- Use a test print to catch unexpected scaling, cropping, or border behavior.
- Keep editable source files separate from the final flattened export.
