How to use this image tool

  1. Select an image from your device.
  2. Set the options for this job.
  3. Choose Convert to WebP, review the result, and download the new file.

What this tool does

The browser decodes the JPEG pixels and encodes a new WebP file at the selected quality. Metadata is normally not carried into the canvas output.

JPEG pixels → Canvas → image/webp Blob

WebP support is checked from the returned Blob type; the tool stops if the browser encoder does not provide WebP.

Supported formats

JPEG and JPG input only. The output is a WebP image. CMYK JPEG behavior depends on the browser decoder.

Tips for better results

  • Start near 80–85% for photographs.
  • Compare fine textures and text in the preview before keeping a low-quality result.
  • Keep the original JPEG if you may need its EXIF or camera metadata later.

FAQ

Does jpg to webp upload my photos?

No. Processing runs in the browser. A pinned library is loaded only when needed, but your selected image bytes are not sent to it or to Callimage.

What happens to image metadata after using this tool?

Canvas-generated image outputs generally omit EXIF and GPS metadata. Keep the original if that information matters.

Why can the result look different from the original?

Decoding, pixel processing, color profiles, and lossy output encoding can change color or fine detail slightly.

Can I use this tool on a phone?

Yes, on a modern mobile browser, although large images may exceed available memory. The tool rejects unusually large inputs before intensive work.

Which files work best with jpg to webp?

JPEG and JPG input only. The output is a WebP image. CMYK JPEG behavior depends on the browser decoder.
