What this tool does

The tool encodes progressively smaller JPEG versions and adjusts quality to seek a result below the requested byte limit.

The target is a maximum, not an exact size. Very small limits can require substantial resolution reduction.

FAQ

Can the result be exactly the file size I enter?

No. Encoders produce discrete sizes, so the tool aims to stay at or below the limit.

Why does the output become smaller in dimensions?

When quality reduction alone is insufficient, the tool reduces pixel dimensions to meet the maximum.

What happens to transparent PNG areas?

JPEG cannot store transparency, so transparent regions are composited onto white.

What is the smallest maximum file size I can request?

The interface accepts 10 KB, but complex images may need very small dimensions to approach that limit.

Does resizing to a maximum size remove metadata?

Canvas export normally omits original EXIF metadata.
