How to use this image tool

What this tool does

The adjuster redraws the image with a global alpha multiplier. Existing semi-transparent pixels remain proportional to their original opacity.

Output alpha = original alpha × selected opacity

The result is PNG because JPEG cannot store transparency.

FAQ

Can I make a JPEG image transparent?

Yes. The pixels receive alpha during PNG export, though the original JPEG had no transparency.

Does 50% opacity halve every pixel alpha value?

Yes. Existing alpha is multiplied by 0.5 rather than replaced with one fixed value.

Why is the downloaded file PNG?

PNG stores the alpha channel needed for transparency; JPEG does not.

Can this tool make only the background transparent?

No. It changes overall image opacity, not selected colors or regions.

Can I restore opacity after downloading?

Not reliably from the flattened transparent result, so keep the original file.
