How to use this office tool

  1. Upload a workbook containing at least two worksheets.
  2. Confirm the first two sheet names shown in the result summary.
  3. Compare them, inspect sample differences, and download the XLSX report.

What this tool does

Pairs cells by row and column, reports added, removed, and changed values, and keeps the original sheet names in the audit output.

For each cell address: equal → omit; blank-to-value → added; value-to-blank → removed; otherwise → changed.

The comparison uses parsed values and formulas. Formatting-only differences are not reported.

Supported formats

Accepts XLSX and XLS workbooks with at least two worksheets. Output is an XLSX difference report.

Tips for better results

  • Place the two sheets in the intended comparison order.
  • Standardize sorting before comparing row-by-row tables.
  • Use a key-based reconciliation tool when row order can change.

FAQ

How are two Excel sheets matched for comparison?

Cells are matched by worksheet address, such as B7 to B7, across the first two sheets.

Does this compare Excel formatting?

No. It compares parsed cell values and formulas, not colors, borders, widths, or conditional formatting.

What if rows were inserted in one sheet?

Address-based comparison may show many downstream differences. Sort or align the tables first when possible.

Can I compare sheets from different workbooks here?

This page expects two sheets in one workbook. Use Compare Two Excel Files for separate files.

What is included in the downloaded difference report?

Each row includes cell address, change type, first-sheet value, and second-sheet value.
