What this tool does

This tool detects a chosen date column, parses Excel serial dates and common text dates, and sorts whole rows chronologically.

Recognized date values become comparable timestamps; rows with blank or unrecognized dates are placed after valid dates.

Ambiguous dates such as 03/04/2026 follow the browser’s standard parsing rules. ISO dates are safer.

Supported formats

XLSX, XLS, CSV, and TSV are supported. The selected sheet is exported to a new XLSX, CSV, or TSV file.

Tips for better results

  • Prefer ISO dates such as 2026-07-26.
  • Review ambiguous day/month text before sorting.
  • Keep the header row outside the sorted data range.

FAQ

How do I sort Excel dates that are stored as text?

Choose the date column and process the file. Recognizable date text is parsed and sorted with numeric Excel dates.

Will the header row move when dates are sorted?

No. The selected header row stays at the top while only the data rows are reordered.

Where do blank or invalid dates go?

They are placed after recognized dates so uncertain values are easy to review.

Can I sort dates from newest to oldest?

Yes. Use the order option to switch between ascending and descending chronology.

Does sorting change values in other columns?

No. Entire rows move together, so values remain associated with their original date row.
