How to use this office tool

What this tool does

This tool performs a syntax and protocol check on values in one column and appends URL Validation Status and Detail fields.

Each nonblank value is parsed with the browser URL parser and accepted only when its protocol is HTTP or HTTPS.

This is a format check, not a live availability test. The tool does not contact the listed websites.

Supported formats

XLSX, XLS, CSV, and TSV are accepted. Results are exported as an annotated XLSX, CSV, TSV, or JSON file.

Tips for better results

  • Include http:// or https:// in complete URLs.
  • Treat redirects and page availability as a separate check.
  • Review blanks separately from malformed addresses.

FAQ

Can this tool tell whether a URL is online?

No. It validates URL structure locally and does not send network requests to test availability.

Which URL protocols are considered valid?

HTTP and HTTPS addresses are accepted. Other schemes are labeled unsupported.

Are blank cells counted as invalid URLs?

Blank values receive a Blank status so they can be filtered separately from malformed URLs.

Will the original URL column be changed?

No. Two validation columns are appended while the original values remain intact.

Can I validate URLs in a CSV file?

Yes. CSV and TSV files are parsed locally and can be exported with the validation results.
