What this tool does

This tool groups records by two selected fields and creates a matrix with counts or numeric sums plus row and column totals.

Every source row contributes to one row-group and column-group intersection; totals are calculated from the same grouped values.

Blank labels are grouped as (Blank). Sum mode treats nonnumeric values as zero.

Supported formats

XLSX, XLS, CSV, and TSV tables with a header row are supported. The cross tab downloads as XLSX, CSV, TSV, or JSON.

XLSX / XLSBrowser parsing; advanced Excel features may not be preserved
CSV / TSVDelimited values with local parsing

Tips for better results

  • Choose categorical fields with a manageable number of unique values.
  • Use count first to inspect group coverage.
  • Clean spelling variations before creating the cross tab.

FAQ

Can I create a cross tab without an Excel pivot table?

Yes. Select row and column fields and the tool builds a static summary matrix in the browser.

What aggregations are available?

You can count records or sum a selected numeric value column.

How are blank category cells handled?

They are grouped under a visible (Blank) label rather than discarded.

Does the output remain linked to the source data?

No. The downloaded cross tab is a static summary and should be regenerated when source data changes.

Can I use a CSV file to make the cross tab?

Yes. CSV and TSV tables work as long as the chosen header row contains field names.
