Classifies nonblank cells by value type and text pattern, then reports columns containing more than one numeric representation.

Classifies nonblank cells by value type and text pattern, then reports columns containing more than one numeric representation.

This is a diagnostic report. It does not rewrite values or guarantee that every custom Excel number format is interpreted.

Supported formats

Reads XLSX, XLS, CSV, and TSV in the browser. The exact output format is shown in the tool controls.

FormatSupport
XLSX / XLSCell data; advanced objects may not be preserved
CSV / TSVUTF-8 delimited data; one table per file

Tips for better results

  • Use descriptive headers so flagged columns are easy to identify.
  • Treat postal codes and account numbers as text, not measurements.
  • Inspect formulas separately because displayed results can mask underlying differences.

FAQ

What counts as a mixed number format?

A column is flagged when it combines representations such as numeric cells, numeric text, percent text, or currency text.

Will different decimal places trigger an issue?

Not by themselves. This scan focuses on value representations rather than cosmetic decimal precision.

Can the report distinguish IDs from real numbers?

It cannot infer business meaning, so review identifier columns before changing their types.

Does the detector modify the workbook?

No. It exports a separate CSV report.

Why might a percentage column be flagged?

A mix such as numeric 0.25 and text 25% uses different underlying representations even if they look related.
