What this tool does

Inventory workbook formulas and rank them by a transparent complexity score based on length, functions, references, nesting, and volatile functions.

The score adds weighted counts for formula length, function calls, references, nesting depth, and volatile functions. It is a review aid, not an Excel calculation result.

Files remain on this device. Keep a backup of the source file and review generated reports before acting on them.

Supported formats

Reads XLSX and XLS formulas when present. It does not execute VBA, refresh external links, or promise Microsoft Excel-equivalent recalculation.

FormatSupport
XLSX / XLSBrowser parsing with SheetJS CE
CSV / TSVDelimited table input
OutputNew XLSX, CSV, JSON, or YAML report

Tips for better results

  • Use a clear header row and unique column names.
  • Keep identifiers such as postal codes stored as text.
  • Check dates, large integers, and formula results in the preview.
  • For sensitive workbooks, close the tab after downloading the result.

FAQ

Does the formula complexity analyzer upload my file?

No. The selected file is read and processed locally by JavaScript in your browser. This page does not send its contents to a processing server.

What happens to formulas and formatting in this formula complexity analyzer?

Reads XLSX and XLS formulas when present. It does not execute VBA, refresh external links, or promise Microsoft Excel-equivalent recalculation.

How large a file can I process with the formula complexity analyzer?

The page enforces a 50 MB per-file and 1,000,000-cell safety limit. Practical capacity also depends on your device memory and browser.

Can I review the formula complexity analyzer result before downloading?

Yes. A bounded preview and summary statistics appear after processing. The full newly generated result is available from the Download button.

Why might the formula complexity analyzer result differ from Excel?

Browser libraries read stored workbook data but do not reproduce the complete Microsoft Excel calculation and rendering engine, VBA, Power Query, or every advanced workbook object.
