How to use this office tool

  1. Choose the workbook you want to inventory.
  2. Set a preview limit and start the audit.
  3. Review the summary, then download the timestamped XLSX snapshot.

What this tool does

The builder creates a point-in-time audit workbook from the uploaded spreadsheet. Comparing reports from different dates can help reviewers identify changes outside Excel's native history features.

Workbook cells → normalized audit rows + fingerprints → XLSX audit file

This is a snapshot, not a reconstruction of edits that happened before the file was uploaded.

Supported formats

Files are processed locally. XLSX and XLS workbooks are read with SheetJS; CSV and TSV files are parsed with delimiter-aware handling. Advanced Excel features may not be preserved in generated files.

Tips for better results

  • Work from a backup when the source workbook is important.
  • Keep identifiers such as ZIP codes and account codes stored as text.
  • Review the bounded preview and downloaded result before replacing any business workflow.

FAQ

Is this the same as Excel version history?

No. It is a point-in-time cell inventory and cannot recover who changed a workbook before it was uploaded.

What information is recorded for each cell?

The report includes sheet, address, row, column, value type, formula when present, displayed value, and a lightweight fingerprint.

Does the audit report modify the workbook?

No. It reads the source locally and creates a separate XLSX report.

Can two audit reports be compared later?

Yes. The stable sheet-address fields and fingerprints make spreadsheet or database comparisons practical.

Are blank cells included in the audit trail?

No. Only populated cells in each worksheet range are recorded to keep the report manageable.
