Managing a betting bankroll is less about finding a perfect stake and more about deciding how much uncertainty you can absorb without changing your plan after a short run of results. The tools in this section cover flat staking, percentage staking, Kelly-based approaches, drawdown, losing streaks, risk of ruin, and bankroll simulations. They are most useful when you already have a realistic estimate of your edge and want to see what different staking rules would do to the same bankroll.
Treat the output as a planning range rather than a promise. Kelly calculations, for example, are highly sensitive to the probability estimate you enter; a small error in your assumed edge can produce a much larger suggested stake. Drawdown and streak tools are useful for the opposite reason: they show how uncomfortable a normal sequence of losses can look even when your assumptions are reasonable. Comparing several staking methods side by side is usually more informative than relying on one formula.
Practical tips
- Use a bankroll amount that is genuinely separate from money needed for bills or savings.
- Test conservative probability estimates as well as your best estimate; staking advice can change sharply when the edge is smaller.
- Compare full Kelly with fractional Kelly or a fixed-percentage approach before choosing a stake size.
- Look at expected drawdown and losing-streak length before deciding that a strategy is underperforming.
- Recalculate after a meaningful bankroll change instead of increasing stakes impulsively after wins or losses.
