Renewable PPA Annual Output Calculator

Estimate the renewable electricity associated with a power purchase agreement from contracted capacity and expected operating performance. The calculator adjusts nameplate capacity for capacity factor, availability, and the share of output covered by the contract. Use the annual, monthly, and contract-term results to check whether expected delivery aligns with an energy procurement target.

How to use this calculator

  1. Enter the renewable facility capacity attributed to the PPA.
  2. Use the expected capacity factor for the resource and site.
  3. Apply availability only if it is not already embedded in the capacity factor.
  4. Enter the contracted output share and term.

Formula

Annual MWh = MW × 8,760 hours × capacity factor × availability × contracted share

What the result means

Annual output is the modeled electricity delivered under the stated operating assumptions, not a guaranteed settlement quantity.

Avoid double-counting availability when the capacity-factor forecast already incorporates outages and curtailment.

Example calculation

A 50 MW contract at 35% capacity factor, 97% availability, and 100% share produces about 148,701 MWh per year and 12,392 MWh in an average month.

Tips for better results

  • Use a resource assessment appropriate to the project location.
  • Confirm whether capacity is AC or DC for solar contracts.
  • Model curtailment separately if it is not in the forecast.
  • Compare annual output with load on the same energy basis.

Frequently asked questions

Does PPA annual output equal the project nameplate maximum?

No. Capacity factor, availability, and contracted share reduce the theoretical nameplate maximum to an expected delivery estimate.

Should availability be applied if it is already included in capacity factor?

No. Set availability to 100% to avoid counting the same outage effect twice.

Does the renewable PPA annual output calculation result include taxes or financing?

No. The result models physical energy and does not apply prices or settlement adjustments. Add taxes, financing costs, incentives, and contract-specific charges separately when they apply.

Can I enter decimal values in this renewable PPA annual output calculation?

Yes. Decimal inputs are supported, and the calculator keeps full precision until results are displayed.

What happens if I enter zero?

Zero is accepted where it represents a valid operating condition. A value that would make the formula undefined triggers an input message instead of showing an invalid result.
