Formula

Equivalent full cycles per year = annual energy throughput ÷ battery capacity. Projected loss (%) = cycles per year × years × loss per cycle.

What the result means

This throughput-based estimate converts partial charges and discharges into equivalent full cycles, then applies the user-entered loss assumption.

Actual aging also depends on calendar time, temperature, chemistry, charge level, fast charging, and operating controls; use a tested fleet-specific loss rate when available.

Example calculation

A 75 kWh battery processing 18,000 kWh per year completes 240 equivalent cycles. At 0.025% loss per cycle for 5 years, estimated loss is 30%, leaving 52.5 kWh.
