Translate customer demand into the production pace a line must sustain. Deduct planned breaks and changeovers from the shift, then compare the required takt with an observed cycle time.
Takt is a demand-driven pace, not the machine’s physical cycle time. The observed cycle should normally be at or below takt to keep up.
Exclude planned non-production time, but do not subtract unplanned downtime when setting the demand pace.
A 480-minute shift less 60 planned minutes leaves 420 minutes. Demand of 210 units gives a takt time of 2 minutes per unit.
Use a period that represents normal work and keep the same start and end boundaries when comparing results.
Yes. A genuine zero is valid for optional loss or delay inputs, while required time, demand, or denominator fields must remain above zero.
Reports may use different boundaries, exclude rework or planned stops, or round intermediate values. Match those definitions before comparing figures.
