Formula

Marketable yield = Area × Baseline yield × (1 + Heating uplift ÷ 100) × (1 − Loss rate ÷ 100)

What the result means

The main result is the estimated saleable crop weight for the entered growing area. The change figure isolates the modeled heating effect while holding loss rate constant.

Heating response varies by crop, light, humidity, set point, disease pressure, and timing. Base the uplift on trials or grower records.

Example calculation

For 500 m², 8 kg/m² baseline yield, 12% uplift, and 5% loss: 500 × 8 × 1.12 × 0.95 = 4,256 kg.

Tips for better results

  • Use a crop-specific baseline from the same season.
  • Separate heating effects from added light or CO₂.
  • Model conservative and optimistic uplift values.
  • Update the loss rate after each production cycle.

Frequently asked questions

Does the forecast include crop losses?

Yes. The gross forecast is reduced by the crop loss percentage you enter.

Can the heating uplift be negative?

Yes. A negative value can model a heating strategy that performs worse than the baseline, but it must remain above -100%.

Should baseline yield be gross or marketable yield?

Use pre-loss yield if you also enter a loss rate. Do not deduct the same loss twice.

Does this calculator choose a greenhouse temperature?

No. It converts an expected yield response into production; it does not prescribe a crop set point.

Why can actual yield differ from the estimate?

Light, cultivar, humidity, pests, nutrition, and temperature distribution can all change the realized harvest.
