Total labor cost = (regular hours × wage + overtime hours × wage × multiplier) × (1 + payroll burden rate)
Labor cost % = total labor cost ÷ net sales × 100
What the result means
The percentage shows how much sales revenue is absorbed by fully loaded labor. Review both the dollar total and percentage because sales volume can change the ratio even when staffing stays constant.
