How to use this calculator

  1. Enter the workforce or program population for one consistent period.
  2. Add the rates, costs, or capacity assumptions shown in the form.
  3. Select Calculate to update the main and supporting results.
  4. Change one assumption at a time to compare scenarios; use Reset to restore the example values.

Formula

Conversion rate = completed actions ÷ eligible employees × 100

What the result means

The rate shows the share of the eligible population that completed the defined action. Keep the action and measurement window consistent when comparing periods.

A conversion rate measures participation, not whether the initiative improved business outcomes.

Example calculation

With 500 eligible employees and 180 completed actions, the conversion rate is 36.0%. A 45% target requires 225 conversions, leaving a gap of 45 people.

Tips for better results

  • Define one observable completion event.
  • Remove ineligible employees before calculating.
  • Compare cohorts over equal time windows.
  • Track invitations, starts, and completions separately.

Frequently asked questions

Which employees should be included in the engagement initiative calculation?

Include the employee population that is eligible for the engagement initiative initiative and use the same population for every input.

Can I use headcount instead of full-time equivalents?

Yes. Use headcount when the decision concerns people; use FTEs when workload capacity is the focus. Do not mix the two.

Should salary inputs include benefits and payroll costs?

Use fully loaded compensation when estimating economic impact. If only salary is available, treat the result as a lower-bound estimate.

How often should I update the calculation?

Recalculate after each measurement period or whenever headcount, compensation, participation, or outcome assumptions materially change.

Does the estimate prove that the program caused the result?

No. It is a planning estimate. A comparison group or well-designed before-and-after analysis is needed to support a causal claim.
