Formula

Total footprint = Scope 1 + Scope 2 + selected Scope 3
Exposed emissions = Total footprint × exposed share %

What the result means

The main result is the combined screening footprint. The exposed-emissions figure narrows attention to activities included in the climate-risk review.

Emissions magnitude is not itself a physical-climate-risk score. Location, hazard, vulnerability, adaptation, and financial materiality need separate analysis.

Example calculation

Scope 1 of 4,200, scope 2 of 3,100, and selected scope 3 of 12,700 total 20,000 tCO2e. A 60% exposed share equals 12,000 tCO2e.

Tips for better results

  • State the reporting year.
  • Do not mix market- and location-based scope 2 values.
  • List included scope 3 categories.
  • Avoid double counting.
  • Pair emissions with asset-level hazard data.

Frequently asked questions

Are the scope 1, 2, and 3 figures independently verified?

No. The result is only as reliable as the emissions inventory values entered; verification is outside this calculator.

Should I enter tonnes of CO2 or CO2e?

Use metric tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO2e) consistently across all emissions fields.

What happens if I enter zero?

Zero is accepted where it is meaningful. The calculator blocks negative values and any input that would make the selected scenario invalid.

How should uncertain inputs be handled?

Run conservative, central, and optimistic cases by changing the uncertain inputs and compare the resulting exposure.

Can this result be used for regulatory reporting?

It is a planning estimate only. Apply the required reporting standard, boundaries, factors, and assurance process separately.
