Formula

Base sensors = ceiling(assets × sensors per asset). Fleet = ceiling(base sensors × (1 + spare rate)). Crews = ceiling(base sensors ÷ crew-day productivity ÷ workdays).

What the result means

Fleet size is the hardware quantity to procure under the stated spare policy. Crew count reflects installation workload for the base sensors and assumes productivity already includes commissioning.

Different asset classes may need different sensor types. Calculate them separately when hardware is not interchangeable.

Example calculation

For 800 assets with 3 sensors each and a 5% spare allowance, total fleet size is 2,520 sensors. At 18 installations per crew-day over 60 days, at least 3 crews are needed.
