Formula

Recovery rate = (finished compost + other recovered outputs) ÷ incoming material × 100. Process loss = incoming − recovered outputs.

What the result means

Wet-basis and dry-basis measurements should not be mixed. Composting naturally loses mass through water evaporation and carbon conversion, so recovery is not a standalone quality score.
