AI Sales Assistant Cost per Task Calculator

Estimate the unit economics for sales interactions using workload-specific operating assumptions. Adjust the inputs to match measured production behavior, then use the primary estimate and supporting metrics to compare deployment choices, identify constraints, and document a repeatable planning baseline. The calculator runs locally in your browser and does not send operational data to a server.

How to use this calculator

  • Enter the workload and performance values that represent the planning period.
  • Use measured production averages or representative benchmark results where possible.
  • Select Calculate to update the main estimate and supporting metrics.
  • Compare the result with available capacity, budget, or service goals.
  • Change one assumption at a time to test a practical scenario.

Formula

Attempt cost = input tokens × input price ÷ 1,000,000 + output tokens × output price ÷ 1,000,000 + tool cost
Cost per successful task = attempt cost ÷ completion rate

What the result means

The main result is the direct variable cost for one successful outcome. Attempt cost separates raw execution expense, token cost isolates model usage, and failure cost shows the uplift caused by incomplete attempts.

Exclude fixed engineering and staffing costs only if you intentionally want a variable-cost view. Enter current provider prices yourself because pricing and cache rules can change.

Example calculation

For 900 input tokens at $2.50/M, 300 output tokens at $10/M, $0.015 tool cost, and 92% completion:

Attempt = $0.02025; successful task = $0.02025 ÷ 0.92 = $0.0220

Tips for better results

  • Model prospecting, qualification, and follow-up separately when their prompts differ.
  • Use production token measurements instead of assuming every interaction is identical.
  • Include CRM lookups and tool-call delays in end-to-end planning.
  • Account for retries and human handoffs when estimating completed work.
  • Revisit assumptions when the sales sequence or model changes.

Frequently asked questions

Should human escalation cost be included in AI sales assistant cost per task?

Add the expected escalation cost to tool and platform cost when you want a blended operational estimate rather than model-only cost.

How do cached input tokens affect the calculation?

Use a blended input price based on the cached and uncached share, or calculate the two portions separately before entering the combined amount.

Why divide by the successful completion rate?

Attempts that fail still incur cost, so their expense must be distributed across the smaller number of successful outcomes.

Can tool and platform cost be zero?

Yes. Use zero when external APIs, search, CRM, ticketing, or platform fees are not charged per task or are excluded.

Are model subscription fees included?

Not automatically. Allocate fixed subscriptions across expected successful tasks and add that amount if you need fully loaded unit cost.
