How to use this image tool

  1. Select one or more supported images.
  2. Set the available options and review their limits.
  3. Choose Rename and create ZIP, inspect the result, then download the newly created file.

What this tool does

Each image is placed in a new ZIP under a date-based filename. Embedded EXIF capture dates are preferred; missing dates fall back to file modified dates.

YYYY-MM-DD_HH-mm-ss + duplicate counter + original extension

Renaming inside the ZIP does not rewrite image pixels or metadata.

Supported formats

JPEG offers the best EXIF date support. PNG and WebP files are renamed using available metadata or their file modified date.

Tips for better results

  • Select original camera files for more reliable dates.
  • Review the fallback count before using the names as an archive record.
  • Keep the sequence suffix when several photos share one second.

FAQ

How are duplicate photo dates handled?

The first file keeps the base timestamp and later files receive increasing numeric suffixes.

What happens when an image has no EXIF date?

The tool uses the file modified timestamp and includes that fact in the ZIP manifest.

Does renaming remove photo metadata?

No. The original image bytes are stored under new names inside the ZIP.

Can I rename many photos at once?

Yes, although very large batches can use substantial browser memory while the ZIP is assembled.

Why can a downloaded photo get the wrong date?

Its EXIF may have been stripped, leaving only a download or copy timestamp as the fallback.
