How to use this office tool

  1. Upload a workbook and enter the one-based column number to split.
  2. Choose the delimiter used inside that column.
  3. Process, inspect the expanded rows, and download the XLSX result.

What this tool does

Separates values from one selected column, inserts the resulting parts beside it, and writes a new XLSX workbook.

Target column number + delimiter → expanded columns in a new worksheet copy

Delimiter splitting is literal. Review values that contain the chosen separator as part of their normal text.

Supported formats

Reads XLSX, XLS, CSV, and TSV. The output is XLSX and contains a processed copy of the selected worksheet.

OutputNew XLSX, TSV, XML, or HTML file

Tips for better results

  • Use comma only when commas are true separators, not punctuation.
  • Check the widest split row before exporting.
  • Keep a header row so the new columns are easy to rename.

FAQ

How do I split a full-name column in Excel?

Choose the column number and select Space as the delimiter. Names with middle names may create more parts, so review the preview.

Can I split a column using a pipe character?

Yes. Select Pipe and each literal vertical bar becomes a column boundary.

What happens when a row has fewer parts?

The missing result cells stay blank; rows with more parts expand to the maximum number of generated columns.

Does the original column remain in the output?

The selected column is replaced by its split parts in the processed worksheet copy.

Can this split by a multi-character delimiter?

This version supports comma, semicolon, pipe, tab, and space delimiters rather than arbitrary multi-character patterns.
