What this tool does

Audit how completely a PDF’s bookmark tree covers its pages. The report maps destinations to page numbers and highlights long unbookmarked runs.

Bookmark coverage is calculated from valid outline destinations. A bookmark can point to a page without describing every heading on it.

Files stay in this browser tab. Very large or damaged PDFs may exceed available memory or fail to parse.

Supported formats

Standard PDF files with the relevant stored structure are supported. Password-protected, malformed, dynamic XFA, and unusually large files may not be readable.

Tips for better results

  • Work from an unlocked copy and keep the original.
  • Use a tagged, searchable PDF when checking accessibility structure.
  • Review automated results manually before publishing.

FAQ

Does pdf bookmark coverage checker upload my PDF?

No. Processing runs locally in your browser. The page loads its PDF libraries from a pinned CDN, but your selected document is not sent to a server.

Can this tool process an encrypted or password-protected PDF?

Not reliably. Remove the password in an authorized PDF application first, then analyze the unlocked copy.

Why can the result differ from what I see on the page?

PDF appearance and accessibility structure are separate. This tool reports stored bookmarks, tags, annotations, labels, or extracted text rather than inferring meaning from appearance.

Will pdf bookmark coverage checker preserve digital signatures?

The original file is never changed. The downloaded report is separate from the source PDF.

What should I do when the report finds no usable structure?

Check whether the PDF is tagged or has bookmarks, searchable text, annotations, or page labels as appropriate. Add that structure in an authoring or remediation tool and run the check again.
