What the result means

The needed score tells you the average score required on remaining exams to reach the target. The projected average shows where you land if your expected score happens.

Needed remaining score = (target × total weight − current average × completed weight) ÷ remaining weight. Projected average uses expected next exam score.

If the needed score is above 100%, the target is not reachable through remaining exams alone under the current weighting.

Example calculation

A 78% current average over 60% completed weight with a target of 85% requires 95.5% on the remaining 40% exam weight.

Tips for better results

  • Focus first on high-weight exams because they move the average most.
  • Use the projected average to compare realistic and stretch scenarios.
  • If the required score is above 100%, improve non-exam categories where possible.

FAQ

What score do I need on my final exam to get an A?

Enter your current exam average, completed weight, remaining final weight, and A target to calculate the required score.

Can I still get an A after failing one exam?

It depends on the failed exam weight and remaining exam weight. The needed score will show whether the target is still reachable.

How much does my final exam affect my class grade?

A final exam with a larger remaining weight has a stronger effect on your overall exam average.

How do I calculate my exam average with different weights?

Multiply each exam score by its weight, add the weighted scores, then divide by the total exam weight.

What is the minimum score I need to pass the exam category?

Set your target to the passing percentage and calculate the required remaining exam score.
