How to use this calculator

  1. Enter the battery, energy, power, price, or activity data requested.
  2. Use values from the vehicle, charger, utility, network, or operating records when available.
  3. Select Calculate and review the main estimate with the supporting metrics.
  4. Change one assumption at a time to compare scenarios.

Formula

Energy drawn = battery energy ÷ charging efficiency. Subtotal = energy drawn × energy rate + session fee + timed fee. Total = subtotal × (1 + surcharge).

What the result means

The total combines energy losses and non-energy fees, making different charging locations or pricing plans easier to compare on the same basis.

Pricing rules vary by network, location, membership, parking policy, and jurisdiction. Enter the posted terms for the specific session.

Example calculation

Adding 40 kWh at 90% efficiency draws 44.44 kWh. At $0.45/kWh plus a $1 session fee and no other fees, the total is $21.00. At 3.5 mi/kWh, that is about $0.15 per mile.

Tips for better results

  • Use measured session data instead of rated values when available.
  • Keep power, energy, time, and percentage units consistent.
  • Compare a typical case with a conservative case.
  • Review charger or vehicle limits before acting on the result.
  • Recalculate when pricing, weather, routing, or operating conditions change.

Frequently asked questions

Does the estimate include charging losses?

Yes. Battery energy requested is divided by charging efficiency to estimate energy drawn from the charger.

How are session fees handled?

The entered connection or session fee is added once per charging session.

Can I enter time-based parking or idle fees?

Yes. Enter the applicable minutes and per-minute fee; use zero when none apply.

Why is cost per mile only an estimate?

It uses your expected driving efficiency, while weather, speed, terrain, and accessories can change consumption.

Does this calculator include taxes automatically?

No. Put taxes or other percentage surcharges into the surcharge input when they apply.
