Live Streaming Net Revenue Calculator

Calculate the revenue retained from live streaming after refunds, percentage platform and payment fees, and direct operating costs. The calculator separates gross sales from deductions so you can see net revenue, total deductions, net margin, and average net revenue per stream. Enter your own fee rate rather than relying on a platform-specific assumption.

How to use this calculator

  1. Enter gross revenue for one consistent reporting period.
  2. Add refunds and the blended percentage fee charged on gross revenue.
  3. Enter direct operating costs and the number of completed units.
  4. Review net revenue, margin, and per-unit result together.

Formula

Net revenue = Gross revenue − Refunds − (Gross revenue × Fee rate) − Direct costs

Net margin = Net revenue ÷ Gross revenue × 100

What the result means

Net revenue is the amount remaining after every deduction entered here. It is not necessarily taxable income or full business profit.

Enter shipping subsidies, production, fulfillment, moderation, or contractor costs in direct costs when they belong to the measured period.

Example calculation

With $10,000 gross revenue, $300 refunds, 12% fees, $2,200 direct costs, and 400 streams, net revenue is $6,300. Deductions total $3,700, net margin is 63%, and net revenue per stream is $15.75.

Tips for better results

  • Reconcile gross revenue to platform statements.
  • Keep tax collected for authorities out of revenue when appropriate.
  • Include refunds only once.
  • Use a blended fee rate when several payment methods are involved.
  • Compare periods only when cost classification is consistent.

Frequently asked questions

Which costs belong in live streaming net revenue?

Include the direct costs you want deducted for the measured activity and period; broader overhead can be analyzed separately.

Are percentage fees calculated before refunds?

Yes. This model applies the entered fee rate to gross revenue for a simple, visible assumption.

Can net revenue be negative?

Yes. Deductions can exceed gross revenue, producing negative net revenue and margin.

Why does the calculator ask for stream count?

It provides a per-unit net revenue metric that helps compare periods with different activity levels.

Is net revenue the same as cash received?

Not always; settlement timing, reserves, taxes, and unpaid balances can make cash flow differ.
