How to use this calculator
- Enter identical package count and per-package dimensions.
- Enter gross weight per package.
- Use the dimensional divisor stated for the booking.
- Enter payload allocated to the shipment and calculate.
Estimate how much of an air freight payload allocation a shipment consumes after comparing gross weight with volumetric weight. Enter package count, dimensions, weight per package, the carrier’s dimensional divisor, and available payload. The calculator identifies chargeable weight, capacity utilization, and the remaining allocation. It supports booking and consolidation planning, but final acceptance also depends on aircraft contour, door size, balance, route restrictions, cargo compatibility, and carrier rules.
Volumetric weight = Packages × Length × Width × Height ÷ Divisor
Chargeable capacity demand = greater of gross weight and volumetric weight
The main result is the percentage of the entered payload allocation consumed by chargeable capacity demand.
Confirm the carrier divisor and actual payload allocation. This estimate does not verify aircraft contour, balance, door dimensions, or acceptance.
For 20 packages measuring 80 × 60 × 50 cm at 120 kg each, a divisor of 6,000 gives 800 kg volumetric weight. Gross weight is 2,400 kg, so chargeable demand is 2,400 kg.
2,400 ÷ 5,000 × 100 = 48.00% capacity utilization
The calculator compares gross weight with volumetric weight and uses the larger value as the capacity demand under the entered conversion factor.
Enter the divisor stated by the carrier or tariff for dimensions in centimeters. The calculator does not assume one universal contract rule.
Low-density cargo may have a volumetric weight above its physical weight, consuming space-based capacity first.
Not necessarily. Use the payload actually allocated after fuel, route, operational, and booking restrictions.
No. It is a planning estimate and does not assess dimensions, door limits, contour, balance, dangerous goods, or carrier acceptance.
