Formula

Travel hours = distance ÷ effective speed
Base hours = origin + travel + dwell + destination
Total hours = base hours × (1 + contingency %)

What the result means

The main result is elapsed time including the explicit allowance. Base time and contingency are shown separately so the planning cushion is not mistaken for scheduled movement.

For ocean or rail itineraries, effective speed should represent scheduled door-to-door movement; place known terminal waits in dwell rather than hiding them in speed.

Example calculation

At 1,200 km and 50 km/h, travel takes 24 hours. Adding 18 origin hours, 30 dwell hours, and 12 destination hours gives 84 base hours. A 10% allowance produces 92.4 hours, or 3.85 days.
