Delivery Window Service Level Calculator

Calculate the share of scheduled deliveries completed inside their promised windows and separate early, late, and failed attempts. The result gives operations teams a clean service-level measure while also exposing the miss volume that must be investigated.

Calculator

On-window performance
deliveries
All delivery attempts with a promised window.
deliveries
Completed no earlier or later than the promised window.
deliveries
Completed before the window opened.
deliveries
Completed after the window closed.
deliveries
Not completed on the scheduled attempt.

How to use this calculator

  1. Enter the operating values for the route, inventory policy, or supplier scenario.
  2. Keep time units consistent with the labels shown beside each field.
  3. Select Calculate to refresh the main result and supporting measures.
  4. Review the interpretation and test another scenario before making a planning decision.

Formula

Delivery window service level (%) = inside-window deliveries ÷ scheduled deliveries × 100. Window misses = scheduled deliveries − inside-window deliveries.

What the result means

This service level counts only deliveries completed within the stated window as successful. Early arrivals, late arrivals, and failed attempts remain visible as separate exceptions.

The 95% gap is a scenario target for planning, not an industry benchmark or guarantee. Change your operational target outside the calculator if another threshold applies.

Example calculation

Out of 500 scheduled deliveries, 455 inside the window produce a 91.00% service level. The 45 misses consist of 15 early, 20 late, and 10 failed attempts; 20 more inside-window deliveries would be needed to reach 95%.

Tips for better results

  • Use data from a consistent route, SKU group, supplier, and reporting period.
  • Replace optimistic averages with a realistic operating estimate.
  • Test a constrained or delayed case as well as the normal case.
  • Keep excluded costs or operating limits documented beside your scenario.
  • Recalculate when demand, lead time, route design, or shipment volume changes.

Frequently asked questions

Do early deliveries count as successful delivery-window performance?

Not in this calculator. A delivery must occur inside the promised interval; early arrivals are reported as misses.

How are failed delivery attempts reflected in service level?

They remain in scheduled deliveries but not in inside-window deliveries, so they reduce the service level.

What if my early, late, and failed counts do not equal all misses?

The calculator flags the mismatch because every scheduled delivery should belong to one outcome category.

How many more on-window deliveries are needed to reach 95 percent?

The target gap shows the additional inside-window successes needed for the same total number of scheduled deliveries.

Can I calculate service level for one carrier or route?

Yes. Enter counts from a consistent carrier, route, facility, or reporting period.
