Formula

Final yield loss = (units started − good without rework − recovered by rework) ÷ units started × 100.

What the result means

Yield loss is the share that remains unusable after rework. First-pass yield separately shows how much passed without added work.

The value estimate uses material cost only and excludes labor, disposal, lost capacity, and rework cost.

Example calculation

From 1,000 starts, 930 pass initially and 40 are recovered. Scrap is 30 units, yield loss is 3%, and material loss at $12.50 is $375.
