It accounts for planned operating time, downtime, average cycle time, and first-pass yield, so the result is more useful than a simple units-per-hour estimate. Adjust one input at a time to see whether lost time, line speed, or defects have the largest effect on the assembly line.
Good throughput is the estimated number of first-pass acceptable units produced during the scheduled period. Gross units show line output before quality losses.
