Set the production rhythm required to meet demand during a defined schedule. This calculator subtracts planned breaks and changeovers from scheduled time, then divides the remaining available time by required good units. The result is a demand-paced takt time, not the measured speed of the packaging line; compare it with actual cycle time to identify a capacity gap.
Takt time is the maximum average time allowed per required good unit within the selected demand period. A measured cycle above takt indicates a shortfall under the entered assumptions.
Takt does not include an automatic allowance for defects or unplanned downtime. If demand is stated as good units, plan those losses separately or adjust capacity assumptions.
For an 8-hour shift with 30 minutes of breaks, 30 minutes of changeover, and demand for 420 good units, available time is 420 minutes and takt is 60 seconds per unit. An actual 55-second cycle is 5 seconds faster than takt.
Use the time boundary defined by the inputs: subtract planned excluded time where requested and keep all values within the same production period.
