Formula

Crew productivity = installed tons ÷ (shift hours × shifts worked)

Worker productivity divides installed tons by total labor-hours: crew size × shift hours × shifts.

What the result means

The main result is the tonnage placed by the entire crew in one clock hour. It is best compared across periods with similar steel complexity, access, crane support, and connection scope.

This is a production estimate, not a contractual labor standard. Keep the labor scope consistent when comparing periods.

Example calculation

A crew installs 120 tons with 8 workers over ten 8-hour shifts. Crew productivity is 120 ÷ 80 = 1.5 tons per crew-hour. That is 12 tons per shift and 0.1875 ton per worker-hour.

Tips for better results

  • Separate erection hours from fabrication or delivery labor when scopes differ.
  • Track simple framing and connection-heavy work separately.
  • Use accepted installed tonnage so rework does not inflate production.
  • Record weather, access, and crane interruptions beside each period.
