Rideshare Driver Net Earnings Calculator

Calculate operating net earnings for a driver after platform deductions, mileage-based vehicle costs, and other work expenses. The calculator also shows net per online hour and operating margin, helping you compare shifts using the full time and cost commitment rather than gross app revenue alone.

How to use this calculator

  1. Enter all gross revenue for one consistent period.
  2. Add platform deductions that are not already removed from gross.
  3. Multiply work miles by a realistic vehicle-cost estimate.
  4. Add other costs and total online hours, then calculate.

Formula

Vehicle cost = work miles × cost per mile
Operating net = gross earnings − platform fees − vehicle cost − other costs
Net per online hour = operating net ÷ online hours

What the result means

Operating net measures what remains after the direct work costs entered here. Net per online hour values all committed time, while margin expresses operating net as a share of gross earnings.

Personal income tax, self-employment tax, benefits, and unentered overhead are excluded. A mileage cost estimate may include depreciation, but avoid double-counting.

Example calculation

Gross earnings of $1500, $75 in fees, 700 miles at $0.42 per mile, and $80 of other costs produce $1051.0 operating net. Over 45 online hours, net is $23.36 per hour.

Tips for better results

  • Reconcile gross revenue with the platform statement.
  • Use business miles only and keep a mileage log.
  • Estimate full vehicle cost, not fuel alone, when comparing long-term profitability.
  • Include unpaid online time in the hour total.
  • Calculate by shift type to identify stronger time slots.

Frequently asked questions

Should gross earnings include tips and bonuses?

Yes. Include all revenue for the period if you want a complete operating net estimate.

Is cost per mile the tax mileage rate?

Not necessarily. This input is your economic vehicle-cost estimate, which may differ from a tax deduction rate.

Why use online hours instead of active hours?

Online hours capture unpaid waiting and show the effective return on the full time committed.

Are income taxes included in net earnings?

No. This calculator shows operating net before personal income and self-employment taxes.

Can vehicle cost include depreciation?

Yes, if your per-mile estimate is intended to reflect depreciation and you do not add it again elsewhere.
