Formula

Usable capacity (g) = volume (L) × density (g/L) × (1 − headspace %). Days of supply = usable capacity ÷ daily use.

What the result means

Usable capacity is the estimated kibble weight below the reserved fill line. Days of supply translates that weight into a restocking interval.

Kibble shape and settling can change density. Measure the actual food rather than relying on a generic conversion when fit matters.

Example calculation

A 12 L container, 420 g/L density, and 10% headspace holds 4,536 g (4.54 kg). At 180 g per day, that is 25.2 days of supply.
