How to use this calculator
- Enter expected occupied pet spaces.
- Set average meals and food served per meal.
- Estimate direct-care minutes for each pet.
- Add a contingency appropriate to the day’s uncertainty.
Estimate the daily operating resources needed for a group of boarded pets. Enter occupancy, meals per pet, food per meal, direct care minutes, and a contingency allowance. The calculator reports food requirement, meal count, and direct-care labor hours, helping a boarding operation prepare supplies and staffing without relying on a generic industry benchmark.
Food (kg/day) = pets × meals/pet × grams/meal × (1 + contingency %) ÷ 1,000. Direct-care hours = pets × minutes/pet × (1 + contingency %) ÷ 60.
The food result includes the selected contingency. Labor hours cover only the direct-care minutes entered and should be combined with other operating duties separately.
Individual diets and care plans vary. Use reservation records and pet-specific instructions for actual preparation, allergies, medication, and staffing assignments.
For 24 pets, 2 meals each, 180 g per meal, 35 care minutes per pet, and 10% contingency: plan 9.50 kg of food, 48 meals, and 15.4 direct-care labor hours.
