Terrarium Daily Requirement Calculator

Estimate a terrarium’s daily misting water and food requirement from enclosure floor area, misting intensity, event frequency, animal biomass, and a feeding rate. The two outputs remain separate because water and food cannot be meaningfully combined. This planning tool is best used with species-specific husbandry guidance and observations of humidity, drainage, appetite, and body condition.

How to use this calculator

  1. Enter measurements or costs using the units shown.
  2. Use values from records, labels, measurements, or the relevant care plan.
  3. Select Calculate and review the main result and supporting figures.
  4. Change one assumption at a time to compare a practical alternative.

Formula

Floor area (m²) = length (cm) × width (cm) ÷ 10,000. Daily misting water = area × mL/m²/event × events/day. Daily food = animal biomass × feeding rate%.

What the result means

The main result is the planned misting-water volume per day. The food figure is reported separately and represents an average allowance, not necessarily a daily feeding schedule.

Species differ widely: many reptiles, amphibians, and invertebrates should not be fed every day. Adjust frequency and quantity using qualified care guidance; avoid persistent saturation and verify ventilation and drainage.

Example calculation

A 90 × 45 cm enclosure has 0.405 m² of floor area. At 180 mL/m² for two events, misting water is 145.8 mL/day. For 350 g animal biomass at 2%, the food allowance is 7 g/day equivalent.

Tips for better results

  • Measure actual usable volume, time, or consumption instead of relying only on a nominal label.
  • Keep every input in the unit printed beside the field.
  • Recalculate when animal weight, occupancy, equipment use, or prices change.
  • Record assumptions with the result so a later comparison uses the same basis.
  • Use professional or product guidance whenever safety depends on the number.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use the Terrarium Daily Requirement result as a professional instruction?

No. Use it to check arithmetic and planning assumptions, then follow the applicable veterinarian, product label, welfare standard, or qualified care guidance.

What happens if I enter zero in the Terrarium Daily Requirement?

A zero is accepted only where it represents no cost, no feed, no water change, or another valid absence. Values used as divisors or required physical dimensions must be greater than zero.

Why can the result differ from my actual terrarium daily requirement outcome?

Actual results depend on conditions not fully represented by a compact model, including animal needs, measured consumption, losses, operating practices, and local prices.

Should I round the Terrarium Daily Requirement result?

Keep the unrounded value for planning. For medication or treatment measurements, use only the rounding and measuring method approved on the label or by the responsible professional.

How often should I update the inputs for this Terrarium Daily Requirement?

Update them whenever weight, occupancy, tank volume, husbandry routine, prices, equipment use, or the underlying care plan changes.
