Soccer Training Power to Weight Calculator

Measure how much cycling, sprint-test, or jump-test power you produce for each kilogram of body mass. Relative power can be more informative than watts alone when comparing your own tests over time, especially after a strength block or body-mass change. Compare only tests performed with the same device and protocol.

How to use this calculator

  1. Enter a recent, representative set of values.
  2. Keep every unit consistent with the field label.
  3. Select Calculate to refresh the estimate.
  4. Review the main result and supporting metrics together.
  5. Use Reset to restore the example inputs.

Formula

Power-to-weight ratio = power in watts ÷ body mass in kilograms.

What the result means

A higher ratio means more measured power relative to mass. It does not by itself measure soccer skill, acceleration technique, repeatability, or endurance.

Do not compare peak power from one testing method with average power from another.

Example calculation

A player producing 900 W at 75 kg has a power-to-weight ratio of 12.0 W/kg. At 72 kg, 864 W would preserve that ratio.

Tips for better results

  • Use the same test equipment and warm-up each time.
  • Record whether the value is peak or average power.
  • Avoid chasing weight loss that compromises strength or health.
  • Track absolute watts alongside relative power.
  • Retest under similar fatigue and hydration conditions.

Frequently asked questions

Is higher watts per kilogram always better for soccer?

It can support acceleration and jumping, but soccer performance also depends on technique, repeat efforts, endurance, and decision-making.

Can I enter pounds for body weight?

Enter kilograms; the calculator separately reports watts per pound.

Should I use peak or average power?

Either can be useful, but comparisons must use the same metric and test protocol.

Why show power needed at a target body mass?

It shows the wattage required to preserve the current ratio at the comparison mass.

Does losing weight automatically improve the ratio?

Only if power is maintained. Weight loss that reduces power may leave the ratio unchanged or worse.
