Basketball Efficiency Training Load Calculator

Estimate internal basketball training load with the session-RPE method. Multiplying total session time by overall effort provides a simple, equipment-free value for tracking practices, conditioning, and games. Weekly context helps reveal when today’s work forms a large share of the planned load.

Formula

Session load = duration in minutes × session RPE. Seven-day load = previous six-day load + session load.

What the result means

The number is an internal-load estimate. It is best used for trends within the same athlete because two players can experience the same drill differently.

No single workload ratio establishes injury risk. Adjust plans with coaching, medical, and athlete feedback.

Example calculation

A 90-minute practice at RPE 7 equals 630 AU. Added to 1,800 AU from the prior six days, the seven-day total is 2,430 AU.

Tips for better results

  • Rate the whole session rather than its hardest drill.
  • Collect RPE consistently after training.
  • Include games, lifting, and conditioning when they are part of the same tracking plan.
  • Review sudden changes alongside soreness and sleep.
  • Use individual trends instead of comparing raw load between players.

Frequently asked questions

What does AU mean?

AU means arbitrary units, the conventional label for minutes multiplied by session RPE.

When should I record session RPE?

Record it consistently after the session, often around 15 to 30 minutes later.

Should warm-up time count?

Yes, use total session duration when you want comparable whole-session loads.

Is a high weekly percentage automatically dangerous?

No. It is a planning flag, not a diagnosis or validated individual injury probability.

Can two players use the same team RPE?

Individual ratings are more informative because athletes can experience the same practice differently.
