Baseline = distance × legs × travelers × kg CO₂e per passenger-km ÷ 1,000
Required cut = Baseline × target %
Target footprint = Baseline − required cut

What the result means

The required cut is the difference between the current baseline and the desired endpoint. The annual figure is a straight-line planning pace; actual reductions can occur unevenly.

A target is only comparable over time when the boundary, factors, and units are kept consistent or changes are documented.

Example calculation

A 10 t CO₂e baseline with a 30% target over five years requires a 3 t CO₂e total cut, averaging 0.6 t per year, and leaves 7 t at the endpoint.
