Total kg CO2e = (Attendees × Travel factor) + (Electricity × Grid factor) + (Attendees × Catering factor) + (Waste × Waste factor)
Total tCO2e = Total kg CO2e ÷ 1,000

What the result means

The total combines four source estimates. The per-attendee value helps compare differently sized events, while the largest-source result helps prioritize better data and reduction work.

Emission factors vary by geography, year, transport mode, menu, waste treatment, and methodology. Record the source and version used for each factor.

Example calculation

For 500 attendees, the four components total 47.75 tCO2e: travel 42.50, electricity 1.60, catering 3.25, and waste 0.41 tCO2e. That is 95.50 kg CO2e per attendee.

Can catering emissions be entered per meal instead of per attendee?

Convert the meal estimate to an average per attendee across the event, including the number of meals in scope.

Does the result include hotel stays and freight?
