How to use this calculator

Formula

Base kbps = [(agents × voice kbps) + (agents × desktop kbps) + (video users × video kbps)] × (1 + overhead). Required = base ÷ (1 − reserve).

What the result means

The result is provisioned bandwidth in each direction under the entered simultaneous workload. Use separate uplink and downlink measurements if traffic is asymmetric.

Software updates, recordings, quality-management uploads, backups, and remote-agent VPN concentration can create additional demand not represented by average desktop traffic.

Example calculation

For 150 agents at 90 kbps voice and 250 kbps desktop traffic, plus 8 video users at 1,500 kbps, 10% overhead, and 25% reserve, provisioned demand is 92.4 Mbps each way.

Should I enter staffed agents or active voice agents?

Use simultaneous agents expected to carry voice during the busy interval. Staffed but idle users may still contribute desktop traffic, which can be modeled separately if material.

Is voice bandwidth counted in both directions?

The result is stated for each direction because live calls transmit and receive media. Check the smaller available uplink or downlink.

How should I estimate desktop traffic per agent?

Use network monitoring during representative busy periods and exclude traffic already modeled in the voice or video fields.

Are call recordings included?

Not automatically. Local recording streams, cloud uploads, playback, and quality-management workflows should be added to desktop traffic or modeled separately.

Does the reserve replace a growth forecast?

No. Reserve handles short-term variation and operational safety; sustained staffing growth should be modeled with a higher agent count.
