Formula

Daily GB = Mbps × 3,600 × active hours × utilization ÷ 8 ÷ 1,000
Period GB = Daily GB × operating days

What the result means

Period usage is the estimated payload-equivalent volume transferred at the entered average rate. Decimal units are used: 1 GB equals 1,000 MB and 1 TB equals 1,000 GB.

This estimate does not automatically add protocol headers, retransmissions, backups, or replication. Increase the utilization/rate assumption or add those volumes separately when they are billable.

Example calculation

At 100 Mbps for 8 hours per day, 30 days, and 60% utilization, daily usage is 216 GB and period usage is 6,480 GB, or 6.48 TB. The whole-period average is 20 Mbps.

At continuous full utilization, 100 Mbps transfers 45 GB in one hour using decimal units.

Does the result include both upload and download traffic?

Only if the entered rate represents their combined measured throughput. Otherwise calculate each direction separately.

Why is utilization needed when I already entered Mbps?

The Mbps input is the active line rate; utilization represents the average fraction of that rate actually used during active hours.

Are the terabytes decimal or binary?

The calculator uses decimal network units: 1 TB equals 1,000 GB.

Does protocol overhead increase billed data usage?

It can, depending on the provider and measurement point. Add an allowance if headers, retransmissions, or encapsulation are counted.
